I bought this SD card to one of my friends in Brazil. Is now very happy to use it with a Garmin 1300. It 'a really great pair. Very good value for money.

The operation is perfect for some cities in Brazil, particularly São Paulo, with the identification of radar, and many other points of interest. Installation is easy, just put in and out with the GPS. Very good! Thank you!

Recently, he turned the grounds of the lakes of northern Italy and found the GPS an invaluable tool for us, especially since the street names are not always detectable in Europe. She not only helped us find our position, but was also useful for planning how long you allow us to reach our destination. A key to its plans for a drive on a vacation in Europe!

I have my Garmin Nuvi 205W. He does very well to where I want, even if you lose only once and must be recalculated. The problem is that sometimes brings me to dead end (places that has never been a path that never!). I was taken in the wrong place at times and sometimes you just have to wait a while 'to turn much to say. Overall, though not very well and about 92% of the time is right so forth. Other 6 or 7%, looks around a bit 'too long. That extra 1 or 2% that makes you go into a strange situation (I've only had for about a month and has done 2 or 3 times). Probably more on the star 3.5 because of the price and the fact that you lose sometimes, where you turn around and that was its original location.

Product Description

A GPS navigator is only as good as the maps it employs. Enter MapSource City Navigator North America, which comes with fully routable maps of U.S., Canadian, and Puerto Rican metropolitan areas. The detailed maps offer the perfect way to get around almost any North American city (and some countrysides, too), while offering more than six million points of interest, including restaurants, bars, hotels, attractions, movie theaters, gas stations, shopping malls, campgrounds, and more. Need a good back-seat driver for your next city-hopping road trip? Look no further than this DVD-ROM. Designed specifically for Garmin's StreetPilot III, StreetPilot 2610, and StreetPilot 2650 vehicle GPS navigators, the disc also boasts detailed information on highways, interstates, business roads, and residential roads, with such attributes as turn restrictions, roundabout guidance, speed categories, and other navigation details. In addition, each DVD offers automatic routing, so you can easily generate point-to-point routes in MapSource or on the compatible navigators. And thanks to the trip and waypoint management feature, you can also transfer waypoints, routes, and tracks between your Garmin GPS and PC.
Other details include supplemental coverage of Hawaii (using unverified government data) and an Unlock Wizard that guides you through the unlocking process (required when downloading data to a data card or Garmin GPS). As with all Garmin Products, City Navigator North America comes with a one-year warranty. Important Note about Map Updates: Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever need a map update, you can get one from Garmin at http://www8.garmin.com/unlock/update.jsp. You will need to have your device's serial number ready.

Works great with turn-by-turn routing on my Garmin GPSMap 76CSx. My only complaint is the cost - not only initially, but then early updates. Garmin keeps getting stricter in terms of how many units you can use with maps too, which is annoying. Overall a great product, just on the expensive side...

The item north american map for garmin unit street pilot lll is o k for one unit but if you own 2 you need to SPEND about 80.00 more to get a NEW CODE to program other unit. I personaly think this is eccessive. I have the disc which I paid over 80.00 to program my units which I have 2 one in my truck and one in my car. No reason for more codes.

Stephen ( Boston, MA )
Garmin has established an Unlock procedure that is so byzantine that I frequently am denied use of my rightfully owned software. Whether the error is missing unlock code, no customer code found, unable to recognize device, or customer support is currently closed, I find it virtually impossible to install the maps on my device. I understand that Garmin wants to prevent piracy, but they really need to beta test their anti-piracy protocols before dumping their wares on the public. If Garmin doesn't respect the hours upon hours of my time that I spend trying to unlock their software, they do not deserve repeat business.

Great software and update for Garmin unit. Pretty accurate, but few error in locations. Still great buy for the price.

Garmin City Navigator for Detailed Maps of Italy and Greece (microSD/SD Card)

Customer's Reviews (All-Reviews)

JEF
It was great to have a GPS in Italy and the price of the SD card was fine. I was using a Garmin 760 GPS unit that works very well in the US. Nevertheless, I discovered that you should not expect it to work as well as it does with your US map. Too often, I found myself passing the exit before I could identify it from the GPS instructions. Probably, that was sometimes my own fault in trying to understand the mispronounced Italian street names that were identified with too much information--sort of like trying to read the overhead route directions that contained directions to several places, all in a foreign language.
The quirkiness of the guidance was annoying. For example, on one occasion I was on on a major road (comparable to an interstate road in the US) and the GPS said to drive on it for 60 miles. I knew that to be correct, having been on the road before. I drove about 10 miles at about 80 miles an hour (yet being passed by the other drivers). Suddenly, the GPS started telling me to "go 500 yards and make a legal U-turn." I knew I had another 50 miles to go so I ignored that instruction (and it was a physical impossibility to make a U-turn on such a road). For another 5 minutes, it kept telling me to make that U-turn, after which it stopped doing so and reflected the fact that I had another 45 miles to go to my destination.
Despite these issues, I recommend the SD card for anyone driving in Italy. Overall, it did its job, and if you realize it is quirky, you will be OK. It is not perfect, but it is better than trying to read foreign maps and asking for directions when there is a language barrier. If nothing else, its pronunciation of Italian street names will keep you amused.

I bought this for a trip to italy and wish i didnt waste the money. The maps were outdated. It tried sending us on roads that didnt exist and didnt have many of the paved public roads that we were driving on.

I just received this product and it took 3 hours to get it to work on a 60csx. The manual consists of 1 3"x 3" page in English of which 1/3 is a warning and 1/3 is a legal disclaimer.

I'm still in the States but from what I can see the maps are very good, with plenty of useful POI's. This chip did not work with Garmin Mapsource or Garmin Map installer. Insert the chip into the unit and figure it out from there. Meaning as far as I can tell, no PC tie in.

In my opinion Garmin makes the best mapping product on the market. Which is a shame because they are consistently overpriced with minimal support. It takes hours on line to see how useful their products can be. Which can be a little scary when you can't get on line.

Martin B. Paul ( Forney, Texas )
Great item! I don't know how I would have gotten though Northern Italy without it! I stayed at some smaller hotels on little streets and it was no problem. The only reason I did not give it a five star is because it included no written instructions.
......................................................

Gary ( Hawaii )
It was exactly as expected and helped me get all around Athens. I did not use it around other areas of Greece or at all in Italy (yet). With it's network of roads downtown it was able to get me from point A to point B knowing the one-way streets. The only drawback was that it doesn't react as quickly as I hoped as it has to read from the SD card so there are slight delays.

I think it's great because you can go off the beaten path and know you can get to your destination.

While the process of installation was simple enough, getting the application to actually work on a Nuvi with US maps already installed has so far proved impossible. The instructions provided are entirely inadequate.

Just came back from Europe...could not have made the trips around Italy and Monaco without this product....the only problem we had was when we went to install, our Garmin did not have the adequate memory. After holding for Garmin support for 1 hr. (not a very nice customer service rep.), we were told we had to go and buy a memory card ($12)...then no problems.

1. Horrible packaging. Need strong scissors or shears to open.

2. Works with Mac OS X and Windows; archaic Garmin software is not intuitive and difficult but not impossible to use. Not a pleasurable experience (the Map App on my iPhone is much more fun.)

3. This version (City Navigator Europe NT 2010) is up-to-date as of April, 2009. Garmin offers additional updates for only $129 (should be free), which can be done online (I did not bite on this).

4. Make sure you get an SD card to go with this program as you'll need a fair amount of space if you want to download a reasonable sample of maps in preparation for your travels (I would suggest a minimum of 500 mb - more is better).

5. Be prepared to wait. It takes forever (hours) to download content, even with a fast SD card.

6. You have to register your Garmin GPS device online and can only use this map with that device. The digital rights management on this software is onerous and dumb (especially considering what you can get online these days for free!)

Once maps installed, unit works with additional maps transparently without problems (may revise when I get back from Europe!)

I'm going on a trip to Turkey, and checked out the City Navigator NT Europe information at the Garmin website, which promised detailed maps of major cities and intercity roads. Those are absent from the DVD. The Turkey information is in version 2010.20, and the latest version available on DVD seems to be 2010.10. I had to contact Garmin support and request a download of the update in order to get the advertised maps.

Installing the maps from the DVD was straightforward. Installing the maps from the update was not.

Traveling_Goddess ( Los Angeles, USA )
Bought this disc, jumped hoops to install it, then finally thought I had installed it went on my trip. Could not use it in France because the nuvi 760 could not find the satellite the entire trip which was 4 days then we went to Spain... yeah, it found the satellite but then Barcelona had no streets listed... only streets that it found were 5 miles out of the main Barcelona city... ok lets move on... it was ok for Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba and Madrid... then we went to Italy... well again the city was on the map but not streets were loading... what the f_? It was a complete and utter disappointment. The other problem was the navigation unit has been starting very slowly ever since I loaded the selected cities and countries that we were going to travel. I think it would have been cheaper and more reliable to have bought a new navigation unit already set-up for Europe.... do not recommend this product at all. Oh, did I mention that the Garmin folks were not very helpful when I emailed them about the problems. The product is great for US use other than that it is not.

I purchased the Garmin City Navigator North America NT "chip" to be used in my Garmin GPSmap 76 CSx. It is fantastic. I originally purchased the hand-held device to be used in navigating my sailboat over the Great Lakes. Then purchased the City Navigator to extend the use of the device on land during the winter months. My winter job takes me all over the state of Wisconsin and the "land chip" gets me there. I am ready to tackle any trip - on land or sea.

I updated my Garmin Nuvi which had a 2008 NA map using the SD card version, no problems loading. However, I was disappointed to find this map has marginal updates. My home address in a subdivision that is 5+ years old is still not available on the map. Mapquest, Google, even Tomtom all have my street address but not Garmin.Likewise, points of interest that have been around 1 to 2 years were not always found. Again, I checked a 2010 Tomtom GPS and it had the hotels, restaurants I was looking for. With the price of GPS' dropping fast and Garmins lack of most current updates, I probably avoid buying updates from Garmin again.

This micro SD card by Garmin really expands the capabilities of my Vista Hcx. I've used it on trips to Canada as well as the Northeast and Southwest United States, and it's been almost infallible. The street maps were up to date, even with recent street name changes. The alerts for turns could come a little sooner--if the speed limit is 45 or higher, sometimes the alert sounds when you should already be in the turning lane. Overall, though, a really good and useful product.

I had gotten the topo map as a download but wanted the streets on my Oregon for Geocaching. I decided on the SD card. I really wasn't sure if I would lose the topo data with the streets...but I did not. I put in the card, turned on my GPS and it worked. Streets on top of the topo data. Now I only use my TomTom for long trips in the car. I use my Oregon for everything else. I never even pull out the other GPS for Geocaching. Could not be easier to install and use. My only fault with it is minor. There does not appear to be a simple way to upgrade the data...but I don't need hyper-accurate maps. If you are a geocacher...you can't beat having the actual roads on your Oregon.

I am using this SD Card on my Nuvi 710 that I bought in the UK. It works without any problems. Did take a minute or 2 to read the card and switch over, I did have to go change my time zone.

Great product

    R. Ross ( Los Angeles, CA )
We do a lot of foreign travel and periodically use a Garmin 60C GPS for understanding where we're going and where we've been. For example, in 2009 we headed to Nepal and Tibet to do some treking and white-water rafting, in 2008 it was central Africa, in 2006 we explored the ice fields and Fjords of Patagonia. None of these areas had easy to acquire maps, so I bought Garmin's WorldMap to at least provide rudimentary maps of the areas. This is about all the WorldMap does, as it is quite "high level" with only the major roads and towns available. However, it does provide downloadable maps for the GPS so that you have something to display in these non-US areas and something to use on your computer screen when planning the trip.

Probably my favorite use of the maps is its built-in tie to Google Earth. Once you locate your places of interest using World Map on your computer, you can click on the "View in Google Earth" and instantly view your waypoints and routes in Google Earth with infinite detail. Vise versa, I often use Google Earth to locate detailed GPS coordinates and copy them into my WorldMap software for download to the GPS; this provides a workaround for the low detail and poor accuracy of maps. When you get home you can also upload your world-wide tracks and waypoints that you acquired on your trip and view them in Google Earth to know exactly where you were and where to post pictures, if you do that. This interactivity with Google Earth saves the day for what otherwise is a pretty limited level of map detail.

In the US, I do a lot of off-road exploring, mostly in the southwest deserts. Here I use Garmin's Topo USA 2008 Garmin Mapsource Topo US 2008. It has infinite detail, on and off-road, and the same wonderful Google-Earth connectivity.

It seems that if you need maps for Peru and Ecuador, this is your only choice, The coverage is only so-so and there is little city detail. These maps are locked to the PC and MAC users beware. If you have a PC and a MAC, you can convert the maps to be readable on the MAC but you need a PC with internet access to do this. And by the way, your PC had better be running XP or Vista. Windows 2000 may work but 98, 98SE do not.

I LOVED IT!! I used this map set to drive the entire east coast of Australia from Cairns to Melbourne. I also used it to drive from Alice Springs to Ayers Rock. It took me around and through Sydney!! This software made the trip a delight. I used the map in my Garmin IQ3600 and had one major problem; the IQ3600 would abort on entering about 1/3 of the roundabouts. And Australia is full of roundabouts. The Garmin would always abort in the same place if reentering a problem roundabout. I worked around the problem by turning off the IQ3600 after getting the exit instruction before entering a roundabout and turning it back on after exiting the roundabout. The problem may not be the map or my Garmin, since I have discovered I was two IQ3600 releases behind and one release claims to fix some navigation aborts. I will find out if I ever return to Australia.

I recently used this product in my Nuvi 360 for three weeks in Austria and Germany and found it highly accurate and the equal of the guide for the USA in terms of driving directions and POI's. It got us through the winding streets of Vienna, Munich and other towns and highways along the way with no problems. We were also in Budapest, though without a car, and it appeared to have a very complete map of that city. We found that the American English voice (Jill) butchered the pronunciation of German street names so switch to the German voice if you understand German. If you know no German (or other local languages as the case may be), then the American pronounciation will probably be useful in recognizing street names phonetically, and of course you will get the driving directions in English.
The Garmin card has absolutely no instructions regarding how to boot it. You must insert the card, turn on the device, then go to Tools>Maps>Map Info and check the Europe Navigator.

Great product...would recommend to anyone with a Garmin going over to Europe. I installed it on my computer and found it very easy to use and being able to select the actual area I wanted was nice because it saved TONS of memory space on my GPS.
