This glossy widescreen navigator takes you there with preloaded maps and turn-by-turn directions that call the streets by name. Offers real-time local weather, traffic, movie times, stock information, gas prices, news and local events during navigation. The 285WT provides complete maps for North America and practice test-to-Speech, so you get turn-by-turn spoken directions with real street names (eg "turn left in 50 feet at Nebraska Way", rather than just "turn left in 50 feet"). Like the rest of the nüvi 205-series, this portable navigator is priced right and ultra-easy to use. [...] |

I'm not sure of the quality of this compared to other Garmin or Garmin vs other brands, but this unit is fantastic GPC.
Appearance:
This unit is pretty large and the images on the screen are easy to see from the driver's or passenger's seat (zooming also helps). The screen does start getting lots of fingerprint smudges on it which you'll have to clean from time to time (I keep a rag in my car for that reason). The exterior has a high gloss finish which is nice to look at.
Functionality:
The charger is the only annoying feature of the Garmin. The cable is really long for my car and I have to fold it up and store the excess somewhere which ends up taking up space. Plus, depending on where you have it situated, it can get in the way of some of your buttons and controls in your car. The unit from time to time will reset itself while driving, though I have no idea why. Start up takes about 1 minute max. The home screen isn't your map, but the menu screen which I find annoying (especially if it's resetting itself and I have to press the map button to get back to seeing where I'm going). The menu layout works well and it's packed with features.
Features:
All of the features are really nice on this unit and are easy to use. I particularly enjoy the route planning and the ability to add a waypoint during your route if you plan on stopping to eat without having to redo the whole thing. The voice is done really well, with a few exceptions, but that's expected. Most of the roads and names it reads aloud sound normal. I could go for a better looking GUI that doesn't have every road and symbol outlined in big bold lines. I haven't used the bluetooth feature, but I plan to in the future for my cell phone.
Overall, I recommend this unit (especially for the price). Any other high-end Garmin I think it would be a waste of money. This is your best bang for the buck.

The addresses for the units are very old. New units should have the most recent address, that what is missing.
