Customer's Rating & Reviews (All-Reviews)

hammerhead ( pittsburgh )
I originally ordered a Garmin and postponed to 1470 as the Garmin froze in my wife and she could not find a satellite when the unit was based on my lap while traveling on a main road in Pittsburgh.

Now, I will not bore you with my Grandmaws journey home. The bottom line is the GPS 1470 has worked well until I updated the maps. Two days after the upgrade to 2.20 map units and, finally, lockedup frozen on the start screen of Magellan. There is no way to reset the device and connect to a computer does not help because the computer does not recognize the device is connected. One might think that Magellan would be a small reset hole on the disk. After reading similar problems when I realized that the unit can not be repaired and must be returned.

I liked the size of the screen, maps and an auxiliary function, however, the power button is really cheesey. The switch has 3 positions on / off / reset, and it is very easy to put in a position to reset the GPS first, which was, in fact I do not know if you use the position becomes a reality off the GPS off, it seems that I usually shut the position reset, maybe that contributed to the malfunction. The complaint of other users who have a connection to 12 V at the bottom of the unit. After I updated the maps, I noticed several streets full of a couple of years have not been displayed its latest map called again. Why can not they sell these units with the latest maps, I think his is a kind of fraud to milk another $ 80 from you.

The good: The Magellans can find a satellite while I'm in my house and they obtain the signal rather quickly.
I will order another 1470 and NOT update the maps if I can find one for $99.00 as I was happy until it quit working.

Now my opinion on GPS's:
Anyone paying much more than $100 for any GPS is crazy. I bought my Wife a refurbished Magellan last year for Christmas and it has worked great, I have used it daily since I am a Trucker.
I understand if you send the GPS in to be fixed they send you back a refurbished unit anyway, so how would you feel about that after spending about $300 on a new one.
I believe that these GPS mfgs add a couple of new chicken resturants to the POI's and that constitutes a map update, gimme $80 please.
