Even if I owned a product in the navigation of the vehicle that has been incorporated into a machine, this was my first time with an aftermarket navigation system. The acquisition of satellite navigation is excellent and is fast. The screen is good, but full sun is a bit 'hard to see. This is not necessarily a defect only for this product. Overall, the most impressive thing about this unit is its size and quality of construction. Compact and with maps for the whole EU and North America.
I think it should have come with a plug-in home charger and car charger, but this is my pet peeve. One of the major omissions (IMHO) was not saying that the box or in the literature that the software update and the maps in the navigation unit requires a PC with Windows. It can be updated with all Apple computers. Ouch!
Finally, I am told the map updates are around $80. Sounds steep, but considering what it takes to update a digital map of the entire US, a fairly cheap price. And frankly, unless you are driving somewhere that has brand new roads, you won't notice the difference. You could just wait and buy an entirely new unit every few years for not much more money. But I actually believe that it's a good idea to support the updating of the maps by purchasing an update.
The technical support I received (when I had a question about how to switch the map from 2D to a 3D view and back) was very competent, and surprised me considering the initial purchase price of the unit. Magellan seems to have good people and customer friendly policies.

The Nav is perfect for me. It 'easy to use, provides clear and gets me where I want to go. Has a lot of imagination, but I do not need it. If you are looking for a simple GPS Nav ... . this is perfect.

This part costs $229.99 original price on the Magellan site. I did all the research on Amazon and eBay, including Garmin and Magellan. Finally I decided to buy this device, a piece $ 99.99 - great! Magellan RoadMate 1424 is new on the market, "the first date available at Amazon.com: October 1, 2009" means you have a new map - no need to pay the extra money for the upgrade of the new map.
There are many people out there know about this unit, so that Amazon dropped the price of the unit. This unit has NAVTEQ maps, which are supposed to be very accurate. I was thinking of getting a Magellan Roadmate 1440 due to track asssist, but I came up with the track "auxiliary is not needed. You can see the direction of a GPS and road signs, which is to keep one-eye-on-the-road. Magellan customer service is not as good as the Garmin, so I decided to buy 3 year warranty from SquareTrade.

This product is a great buy. Very easy to use. The screen is large enough to be seen by the driver and front passenger. We went to a neighborhood of old and complicated instructions were perfect.
